If mud is dirt plus water, what is clay?

Well, if mud is dirt plus water, what IS clay? This is a question I recently (about five minutes ago) found. According to the dictionary, clay is a stiff, sticky, fine-grained earth, typically yellow, red, or blueish-grey in color and often forming an impermeable layer in the soil. It can be molded when wet, and is dried and baked to make bricks, pottery, and ceramics. Oh, and it is also a noun, in case you were wondering or didn't know.
To me, clay is just a stickier, more fun version of mud. Can you build sculptures with mud? Well yes, but that's not the point. Clay is a better version of mud.
Thanks for reading (and putting up with) my ramblings. In case you haven't noticed, I'm a very random person. By the way, feel free to comment on this blog or ask more random questions.

Peace,
Kristen Anderson
